Those body vibrations as you fall asleep are usually your energy body loosening from the physical one. That threshold, right before sleep, is where astral projection begins. Most people never notice it happening. Yours got loud. It is a sign your energy is waking up, not a warning to fear.
What the buzzing actually is
The vibrational stage. It has a name in out-of-body circles, and people who practice astral projection spend months trying to reach it on purpose. You got there by accident, on the way to sleep, which is the most common doorway there is.
Here is the mechanic as I understand it after eleven years of feeling energy move, in other people and in myself. As the body powers down, the mind stays awake a beat longer than usual. In that gap, the awareness that normally sits snug inside you starts to come unstuck. The buzzing, the humming, electricity pouring through your limbs, a train running under the mattress: that is the sensation of the two halves loosening their grip on each other. Some feel it rise through the chest and skull. Some get it head to toe, like being plugged into a low current. One client called it her bones going carbonated. That one stayed with me.
It tends to show up more once you have started doing inner work. Meditation. Energy healing. A big life shift that cracked you open. The channel gets more sensitive, and things that were always happening quietly begin happening loud enough to notice.
Lean in, or make it stop
Both are fine. This is your threshold and you get to decide.
If you want to explore it, do not grab at it. The quickest way to end the vibrations is to get excited and tense up, because that snaps you straight back into the body. Stay soft instead. Keep your eyes still and your breath slow. Let the buzzing build without steering. Some people, at the peak, imagine rolling out of the body the way you roll out of bed, or drifting up toward the ceiling. If nothing happens, nothing happens. You lost nothing but a strange few minutes.
If it frightens you and you want out, open your eyes. Wiggle your fingers and toes. Roll onto your side. Any deliberate movement ends it at once, because you have just told the two halves to lock back together. You are not trapped. You were never trapped. Fear is the only thing that makes it feel like a cage.

The sleep paralysis overlap deserves a mention, because they share a border. Sometimes the vibrations come with the sense that you cannot move, or that someone is in the room. That is ordinary sleep paralysis, the switch that stops you acting out dreams, catching you a moment early. It is harmless even when it does not feel that way. I wrote more in the sleep paralysis piece if the stuck-and-scared version is what keeps finding you.
The honest caveat I owe you
Not every buzz is your energy body. The body hums for plain reasons too.
Hypnic jerks, those sudden jolts that yank you awake as you drift off, are so common they are nearly universal, and the science on them is settled and dull. A wave of tingling can also come from anxiety, too much coffee, or a nervous system simply wound tight that day. And if you get numbness, buzzing, or tingling in your hands and feet during waking hours, not just at sleep onset, that is a conversation for a doctor, not a psychic. Nerves are physical. Rule the body out first. I will still be here.
The difference I have learned to trust: a hypnic jerk throws you. The vibrational stage holds you. One is a flinch. The other is a slow, building hum you can sit inside if you stay calm. If yours is the second kind, you are touching the edge of something a lot of people spend years chasing.

A few quick questions I get
Is body vibration a sign of spiritual awakening?
Often, yes. It clusters with the other early markers of the spiritual awakening path: waking at the same odd hour, sudden rawness in crowds, dreams turning vivid and strange. If several of those arrived together, read the signs of spiritual awakening and count how many fit. The buzzing is your system widening its bandwidth. It settles as you adjust to the new range.
Can the vibrations mean kundalini rising?
They can. When the vibration starts low in the spine and climbs upward carrying heat, that is the kundalini pattern rather than a simple astral loosening. It is potent and now and then rough. The kundalini awakening symptoms piece covers what to do if the energy feels too big to hold alone.
Why does it happen as I fall asleep and never in the day?
Because sleep onset is the only time your guard drops all the way. In waking hours your attention is pinned to the outside world and the subtle stuff gets drowned out. As you sink toward sleep, the outer channels go quiet and the inner ones get their turn. That half awake, half under place is the thinnest stretch of your whole day.

Here is your homework, because I do not send anyone off without something to actually do. Tonight, before bed, set one intention out loud: if the buzzing comes, I am safe, and I am curious. That single sentence changes how your body meets it. Fear clamps down. Curiosity stays open. Keep a notebook by the bed and write one line each morning, whatever you felt. Inside a week you will know your own pattern, and your pattern is worth more than anything I can tell you from here.
If it keeps rattling you, or you want to know if you are stepping into a real gift, come sit with me in live chat and we will name what is moving. If reading with someone live is new to you, the live psychic chat guide explains how it works first. And if you are only curious how open your channel already is, the how psychic are you quiz is a soft place to start.
The buzzing scared me too, years ago, in a rented room with a streetlight coming through the blinds. Now it is almost cozy. Same sensation. Different relationship to it. That shift is the whole journey.
