Privacy policy

The short version

You can browse this entire site, read every article, and chat with an advisor without creating an account. We collect the minimum needed to run the site, we don't sell personal data, and we don't run third-party tracking scripts.

What we collect

• Newsletter email. If you subscribe, we store your email address and a confirmation status, and a record of when and on which form you asked and confirmed (no IP address). Nothing is sent until you confirm by email. Every email includes a one-click unsubscribe link, which removes your address from our list.
• Birthday note. If you ask for a note on your birthday, we store your email address, your first name if you gave one, and the day and month of your birthday. Never the year. One note a year, on that date, after you confirm.
• The stop list. When you unsubscribe, we keep a scrambled form of your address (a one-way hash, not the address itself) so that no marketing email ever reaches you again, even if the address turns up on a form later. Only a fresh sign-up that you confirm yourself takes you off it.
• Anonymous page counts. We count page views in aggregate (which pages, which day) to understand what's useful. This is first-party, contains no personal identifiers, and uses no cookies.
• Referral cookie. If you arrive through a partner's link, we set a single first-party cookie for up to 30 days so the partner can be credited. It contains only the partner's code - nothing about you.
• Ad clicks. If you arrive from one of our own ads on Bing or Google, we note which campaign and keyword the ad belonged to, the words you searched, the page you landed on, your kind of device and rough country, and a scrambled form (a one-way hash) of the click code the ad network gave your browser. We do not note your IP address. These notes are kept for up to 400 days so we can see which ads bring people who find a reader; nothing is noted if you choose "Essential only", or until you answer the cookie banner. If you buy a reading or start a chat on that visit, the click code is kept with the order or the chat and may be reported back to the ad network as a sale or a chat, with the time and the amount, so we can tell which ads pay for themselves. Two first-party cookies carry this: one remembers the click for 30 days, the other the click code for 90 days, both only with your consent.
• Reminder plans. The Ex Return Window and When to Text tools keep, behind a private link, the two star signs, the time zone and the town you gave and the dates they worked out. The birthdays and the breakup date you type are used once to do the sums and are not stored anywhere. A plan is removed about 400 days (ex return window) or 30 days (when to text) after it is made, or as soon as you press Stop on its page.
• New moon intentions. What you write stays behind a private link with the dates of its new and full moon and your time zone, and is deleted about 90 days after the full moon, or when you press Delete. If you give an email address for the check-in, it is used only after you confirm it, for that one check-in, and is removed if you do not confirm. Reminders sent to your phone never contain the intention itself.
• Birthday gifts. When you buy a reading as a gift, we keep the recipient's first name, email address and the day and month of their birthday (never the year), your note to them and, if you offer it, the day and month of your own birthday, with the order, for as long as the order itself is kept. The reading goes to the recipient on the day, signed with your name.
• Reminder notifications. If you ask for reminders on your phone, your browser's push address is stored so they can be sent. A browser that asked only for its own reminders never receives our morning readings.
• Contact messages. If you email us, we keep the correspondence for as long as needed to help you.

Live chat conversations

Chats with advisors are provided through a chat service embedded on advisor pages. Conversation content stays between you and your advisor; we do not publish, share, or sell reading content. The chat service applies its own technical processing to deliver messages, as any messaging tool does.

What your advisor sees when you open a chat

So your advisor can start where you are, the chat receives a short note from this site when you open it: whether you are signed in (and then your account email, so your credits follow you), roughly where your visit came from (for example a search engine), the titles of up to three articles you read on this visit, your quiz result if you took one, and which advisors you reached for. Only the advisor you are chatting with sees it, and it is not used for anything else. The note is signed so nobody can forge it, and it expires after two hours.

Invitations and gift credits

If you open the site from a friend's invitation link, we remember their code in a cookie for 30 days, only if your cookie choice allows analytics. When you open your first chat you get 2 gift credits, and when you first buy credits your friend gets a thank-you; we tell them nothing about you or your readings. Gift credits (including 2 for a new account) are added to your chat balance and become usable with your first credit purchase. We never give credits for posting links, following, watching or sharing.

Store purchases

Purchases are completed on our payment partners' secure checkout pages. We never see or store your card details. The payment partner shares only what's needed to fulfil your order (such as a delivery email for digital items).

Cookies and analytics

We use Google Analytics to understand, in aggregate, how visitors find and use the site. When you first visit, all measurement consent signals are set to "denied" and a banner asks for your choice. Choose Accept all and analytics cookies help us measure visits and improve the site; choose Essential only and no analytics or advertising cookies are set. Either way the site works exactly the same. Your choice is remembered for twelve months in a single first-party cookie, and you can change it any time right here:

Chat clicks

When you press a Chat Now button or click into a chat box, we note the time, the advisor, the page you clicked from, the address of the website that sent you here (for example google.com), your rough country (from your connection or your browser's language setting), your kind of device, the first page you read on this visit, the random visitor code our analytics cookie gives your browser, if it has one, and, if you came from one of our ads, which ad click (see "Ad clicks" above). That tells us which pages help people find a reader. We do not note your IP address, your name or your email for this, and we delete these notes after about a year. The first-page note is kept in a cookie that ends when you close your browser, and only if your cookie choice allows analytics; the same goes for the visitor code.

How long we keep visit records

For each visit we keep the network address, the pages read, the website or tagged link that brought you (for example google.com or a link from ChatGPT), your rough country and your kind of device for a year, so we can see which pages and which websites help people find a reader and recognise a returning visitor. The record of a returning browser (its random visitor code and how it first found us) is kept for up to two years after its last visit.

"What it means for you" boxes

Some articles and reading pages have a box where you can enter your birthday to see what the article means for your sign, and the free snapshot page shows the same kind of answer. The date is sent to our server only to work out the answer and is not kept in our records. Your browser keeps it in its own storage on your device, not in a cookie, so the next article can answer straight away. The "Forget it" link removes it.

Calendar feeds

If you subscribe to one of our calendar feeds, your calendar app fetches it about twice a day. We count those fetches per feed and per kind of calendar app (Google, Apple, Microsoft or other), nothing more. Each subscription link carries a random code your own browser makes when you click it, so we can count how many calendars use a feed without knowing whose they are; we keep only a scrambled form of that code, and delete it 60 days after your calendar last fetched the feed.

What we never do

• No selling or renting of personal data - to anyone, ever.
• No tracking without asking: analytics run only with your consent, and declining changes nothing about what you can read or do here.
• No accounts required, so there's no profile of you to leak.

Your choices

Unsubscribe from the newsletter with the link in any email. Press Stop or Delete on any plan or intention page to remove it. Clear the referral cookie in your browser at any time, and revisit your cookie decision via the "Cookie preferences" footer link. To ask about or request deletion of anything we hold (such as a newsletter address or an email thread), contact us and we'll take care of it promptly.
