Can I talk to someone who has died?
You can speak to someone who has died whenever you like, aloud, in a letter or at their grave, and many people find it helps. No reader can promise a reply, or that a particular person will come through. A live reading with a medium is a space to share impressions and memories, and it works best when you treat what comes as possibility, not proof.
You can always talk to them. What nobody can promise is an answer, and a good reading starts by being honest about that.
What a reader can tell you
There are two halves to this question: speaking to them, and hearing back. The first needs no reader at all. People talk to them on the drive to work, write to them on anniversaries, keep their chair at the table, tell them the family news. Grief researchers call this a continuing bond, and it is a normal part of grieving, not a sign that you are stuck. If it helps, there is no reason to stop.
Hearing back is what people come to a medium for, and it is where honesty matters most. A medium describes impressions; some sittings bring details that move people deeply, and some bring nothing that fits. Nobody can promise that the person you want will come through, on a given day or at all. Be wary of anyone who fishes for details and repeats them back, or who says your loved one needs you to keep coming. The articles below explain how to tell a careful medium from the rest.
Many mediums suggest giving the first raw weeks some room before a sitting, mostly for your sake, so you can hear whatever comes without needing it to mend everything. Before any reading, write down what you would say if you had five minutes with them; it is useful in a chat and worth keeping either way. If you would rather say it with someone trained beside you, some bereavement counsellors use an empty chair exercise: you speak to the person as if they were sitting across from you, with someone in the room who knows grief.
